It’s as if Apple really wants us to hear the startup chime on every Mac prior to the late 2016 refresh. We also found changing the old school SystemAudioVolume nvram setting didn’t work, nor did holding down the Mute key after starting up. Try getting sleep when every 50 second you hear this little 'whamnn' sound. This may seem stupid to hear but the amount of annoyance this stupid little feature caused is literally driving me crazy. Still, it’s nice to know we can turn the chime back on if we want.ĭisabling the startup chime on older Mac models with this command doesn’t work-or, at least it didn’t on the Macs The Mac Observer tested. My macbooks battery charging chime kept on repeating itself every 30-50 seconds or so when the lid is closed and when it is charged. Open the Terminal app by going to Launchpad > Other > Terminal. This method will ignore your Mac's volume level and the sound settings. Also, Macs start up much faster than they did back in 1984, so an audio alert signaling the computer is on and booting up isn’t as necessary as it once was. If you would like to turn off the startup chime on MacBook and even other audio for good, you can use a Terminal command. Presumably Apple figured users would hear the startup chime more often than they’d like. Click the Apple button from the left side of the Macs.

Why did Apple take away the startup chime, you ask? It’s most likely because the new MacBook Pro models don’t have a traditional power button and instead turn on when you lift the laptop lid, or connect the charger cable. You can enable or disable the startup sound for your Mac quite easily from the System Preferences menu. Step 1: Unplug the power cord and leave it unplugged for fifteen seconds. Then, you can try to run Power Cycling to fix your iMac. Step 3: In the left-hand column, choose an app whose settings you want to change. If you can hear some spinning noise from your iMac at startup, there is no power issue. If you decide you don’t want the chime, just change the %01 at the end of the sudo command to %00. Step 1: Open System Preferences in the usual way. That’s it! Now your fancy new MacBook Pro will chime on startup, just like previous models. Use the BootAudio nvram setting to bring back the new MacBook Pro’s startup chime

Then, click the plus sign and browse to PCK.ps and add it. The login items are located in Preferences / Users and Groups / >user of choice< / Login Items. The final step is to add PCK.ps to my specific user login items. I chose "Close if the shell exited cleanly," and now when I double click my "PCK.ps" file, a Terminal window flashes and that stupid powerchime is dead.

In this tab there is a "When the shell exits" section, under which is a box that you can choose one of three options. Under the Profiles tab there is a Shell "sub tab" on the right. Next, under the Terminal drop down menu, there are preferences. Now you can test the script if you want, hopefully it works and the sound is killed! To navigate to the desktop, where the PCK file is. and save it on the desktop as "PCK.txt." (Powerchime killer)

After I found that code for Terminal above, I had to figure out how to make that command run upon login. Here is what a dummy can learn to do for himself. I'd love to find out how to disable this permanently.ĮDIT: I am so proud of myself.
